Hancock Iron Ore

LOCATION: Newman

CLIENT: Hancock Iron Ore

SERO Global was engaged to supply two self-sufficient solar powered modular crib & ablution facilities for Hancock Iron Ore’s rail team, with the units intended for installation at Marubeni Siding and Posco Siding along the rail network north of Newman, Western Australia. The project was established to support maintenance and operations personnel working at these siding locations with safe, weather-resistant and self-sufficient amenities.

The scope called for the procurement of two 12.2m x 3.2m ENERSITE solar-powered crib room and ablution modules with wastewater treatment. Each unit included an office/crib room, kitchenette, two individual toilet rooms, solar power and battery storage, integrated water storage, air conditioning, emergency lighting and smoke alarm systems, along with associated site components such as leach drain systems, tie down blocks, mulch pallets and building access platform stairs.

Hancock Iron Ore needed to provide suitable crib and ablution facilities for personnel working across a remote 500km section of rail network where no existing amenities were available. This lack of infrastructure created a clear operational challenge, limiting access to essential welfare facilities for teams working in isolated conditions.

Compounding the issue, the site locations also had no access to mains power. Any solution therefore needed to deliver reliable, self-sufficient amenities that could operate independently in a remote environment, while remaining practical, durable and fit for ongoing site use.

To address this, SERO Global supplied two ENERSITE solar-powered crib and ablution modules for installation at Marubeni Siding and Posco Siding. Designed as self-sufficient mobile facilities, the units provided essential welfare infrastructure for personnel working in remote rail locations without existing site amenities.

Each module was specified to operate independently, with integrated solar and battery storage helping overcome the lack of mains power access. The units also incorporated crib room and ablution functionality within a single mobile solution, allowing Hancock Iron Ore to establish practical, site-ready facilities suitable for remote operating conditions.

The outcome included:

  • Support for safer and more practical day-to-day operations
  • Improved access to welfare facilities for remote personnel
  • A self-sufficient solution without reliance on mains power
  • Site-ready infrastructure suited to isolated operating conditions
